A Loving Link connects high school volunteers with residents in nursing homes. Through the Penpal Program and Video Communication Program (CA), volunteers provide company to their partners while simultaneously learning from them, listening to their stories, and having fun together.

PenPal Program

The penpal program is a weekly activity where high school students and nursing home residents write to each other about whatever interests them. Some ideas including current news, interesting facts, jokes, entertainment recommendations, what’s going on in their life, plus a question or two within a letter.

Each volunteer will be matched up with the same individual/s for their entire involvement with the program.

Video Communication Program (CA)

The live video communication program, which is only available in California, is a weekly event where a volunteer talks to an individual from our partnered senior homes. These volunteers and individuals spend time with one another for an hour, becoming weekly companions. Our program's goal is to encourage connections and new relationships for the senior individuals in need of social interaction.

Each volunteer will be matched up with the same individual/s for their entire involvement with the program.
